Three months already?

Where has the time gone? Madalyn turned 3 months this last week and I went back to work two weeks ago. She is getting bigger and bigger every day! She has also been loving her time with her aunt during the week while I'm at work.

This time last year we were starting the process of bringing Madalyn into this world. We were going to the doctor and ordering all the medicines. A lot happens over the span of a year! I can't wait to see what this next year has in store for us!

Where is the time going?

I can't believe M is already two months old! She went to the doctor last week and handled her shots like a trooper! She was cranky in the afternoon so that gave me an excuse to cuddle with her...like I really need an excuse for that! She also weighed in at 9lb 8oz! She is growing like a weed! She was in the 10%ile for weight and 0%ile for length and head but what would you expect for her. She follows the curve perfectly but just not in the %iles. As long as she's following the curve that's what we want.

She's still in newborn clothes but I think I can start putting her in some of her 0-3 months stuff without them looking like bags or falling off! I'm excited to extend her wardrobe!

She's now been in her own room for the last week and has done amazingly well. She'll usually sleep from 10p-5a, which I think is great! We've also gotten ourself a nice bedtime routine, so I'm sure that helps.  I made a mobile for her room and it's pretty cute if I do say so myself!  Sometime I need to put up some pics of her room.  Maybe I'll do that on my next post.

It's almost time for me to go back to work. My first day back is two weeks from today. Eek! I dont mind going back because I will get to be around people but it sure has been nice being to not work for the last couple of months. I didnt think I would want to go back but I dont think it'll be a bad thing. At least I work three days a week and not five days, but they are a long three days!

Reflux, Colic, Or Cranky

I dont know what's going on with M but she has been cranky! She cried a LOT at my parents Memorial Day weekend (plus the week before), she wont let me put her down during the week, and she sometimes spits up a LOT! Yes, I know a small amount soaked into a shirt or blanket can look like a lot but when you actually see it come out of the mouth it seems like a large amount!

I started with gas drops...hard to tell if they helped or not because she as always tooting up a storm (she takes after her daddy). After a few days I went out and got gripe water. It seemed to help sometimes. I was also following reflux precautions- feeding her upright, having her upright for 20 mins after feeds, and trying not to jiggle her around too much after feeds. It seemed to help at first but this last weekend she was extremely cranky again!

Monday morning I decided to call for a doctor appointment. Her doctor said that reflux shouldnt bother her because the pH in her stomach isnt that high but we can try some medicine and see what happens. We started Axxid yesterday and she seems to be doing better. She's not as cranky. Still spitting up but it doesnt seem to be as much. The doctor also said that being on the tummy with a 30* incline also helps, which she does like being on her tummy at times and now I know why. He also said reflux isnt an issue unless it's causing poor weight gain or aspiration pneumonia, which arent issues for M! She's up to 8 lbs 6 oz! She's huge!

He also checked out her umbilical hernia and said it was extremely small. I'm just ready for it to go away! It just looks awful. I'm hoping it will go away before the one year more. And no taping a coin to her belly wont help.

Two week check

M had her two week check last Wednesday! She's still doing everything she's supposed to. Her weight is up to 5lb 5oz and is 19.25in long! She's still in the 0%ile for weight and head but up to the 10%ile for length. Her next checkup is at two months where she'll have to get shots. Yuck!

Back to birth weight!

My babydoll was already back to her birth weight at 6 days old! How amazing is that? It usually takes 10-14 days to get back to birth weight. That means I must be doing something right! However, since she is so small she is in the 0%ile on the growth chart. That's what happens when you're born so small!

I'm a MOMMY!!!

I'm FINALLY a mommy as of last Wednesday! And it was definitely worth the wait! I'm finally getting time to post my birth story, so here we go!

Shawn and I went to the hospital around 8p on Tuesday night for my scheduled induction. I was still not dilated at my appointment the day before, so I had to go in to have Cervidil placed to hopefully soften my cervix. I got a little sleep but was very nervous about knocking my IV out and nervous about the BIG day.

Morning finally came and the doctor took out the Cervidil. My cervix did soften but that was it. The Pitocin was started about an hour later. As the morning progressed I dilated to maybe 1cm and the doctor unsuccessfully tried to break my water. During this time Madalyn had a couple decels with my contractions so I was changing positions a lot. As my labor continued she started to have decels with my contractions and I had only dilated to 1.5cm.

Around 11a the docctor came back by and we discussed the possibility of a C-section since I wasnt dilating and she was having decels. Her thinking (and mine) we went to get this baby out healthy and not put her under a lot more stress since I had not really dilated.

Between 1-2p, they stop the Pitocin because of the continued decels and start to prep me for the C-section. The nurse said that Madalyn was doing better because they stopped the medicine but I could still hear that her heart rate would drop with each of my contractions. That made me nervous but I knew we made the right decision!

Now we were in a holding pattern. We were supposed to go right back for the C-section around 2p but there were two emergency C-sections so we got bumped twice. Just before 4p they get me back to the OR, I get my spinal block, and things get going! Let me tell you the weirdest thing is to have a surgery like that and be awake! I didnt feel any pain BUT I could feel all the tugging and pulling!

Once they were down to Madalyn's home for the last 37 weeks they had Shawn look over the drape to see her come out. Shawn was also able to go over to the warmer and take all the pictures he wanted! I am so glad we were told we could take the camera in with us because I had my parents holding it for us, so I made Shawn grab it before we went into the OR. I"m sure Shawn was very happy to be the first one to hold her once they were done with her!

Madalyn weighed in at a whole 4lb 9oz and was 17.75in long. The size of a 33 weeker! Since she was so small she had trouble keeping her temp up to begin with and had to be wrapped at all times. She also had to have her blood sugar checked frequently to begin with but luckily there were no issues there! I'm happy to say there was no NICU stay for her and were were able to go home that Friday. Since I was a C-section, I would have normally stayed till the next day but I wasnt sending Madalyn to the nursery at night and the only thing the nurses were doing for us was their assessments twice a shift. I was also only taking Motrin for pain. I was ready to be at home and in my own bed!

In the end I am very glad I had a C-section even though the entire week bofore I said that I didn't want one.  I dont mind my little scar at all because she is here safe and healthy!

We have a birth day

Had my appointments this morning and we have a birthday....next Wednseday. Not at all sure what to think. I really didnt want her to come this early! I have lots to do before then! I need to get her room organized. I need to buy a few more things...yes we have the necessities like crib/carseat/stroller but there are other things I would like. I also need to figure out what I want to get and what I dont really want. Just so overwhelming right now. This post is short and sweet and probably makes no sense.
